Anna Hetherington is a multi-instrumentalist composer and producer based in Manchester, UK.
Her music has been played on national and international television, radio and online with credits including UNICEF, BBC Radio 4, BBC 2, Channel 4, Channel 5, National Geographic and VICE.
Her writing is distinctive and varied, and ranging in style from cutting-edge electronica, ambient, rock and jazz to contemporary classical and orchestral, depending on what the brief requires.
She began songwriting from a young age, and would perform her songs live on vocals and guitar/piano in local establishments in her home town of Middlewich, Cheshire. Meanwhile she would record these early songs to an old 4-track tape recorder. In her teens she learnt the saxophone and as her tastes widened began playing in rock, funk and jazz bands. She later voyaged into electronic and experimental music and began computer-based composition.
Whilst studying music production at Leeds Conservatoire from 2003 she was a lead singer & saxophonist in Red Go Green Stop, a dance-indie band who performed regularly across the UK. After this Anna continued honing her skills through futher writing, performing and collaborating within the local scene in rock/electronica bands and as a solo artist.
Having obtained a PGCE at Huddersfield University in 2008 Anna went on to teach Music & Music Technology at schools and 6th Form colleges around Yorkshire and Manchester.
With an interest in the power of music to help people psychologically, Anna gained her Masters in Music Therapy in 2016 from Queen Margaret’s University in Edinburgh. Whilst at Edinburgh she conducted contemporary choirs.
She is now based in Manchester where she performs, composes, teaches privately and works as a music therapist.
She regularly releases music for media (tv, radio and online) and is recording an album of original songs for release in the near future.
